Penguins Beat No. 10 Tulane on Day Two at Hawk Classic Invitational

The Youngstown State bowling team earned a win over No. 10 Tulane to highlight the second day of the Hawk Classic Invitational. The tournament is being hosted by UMES at Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Del.

The Penguins finished 1-3 in head-to-head traditional team games, and they moved up one spot in the team standings to 16th. They will take on St. Francis Brooklyn in the opening round of bracket play on Sunday at 8:25 a.m.

Nikki Mendez was YSU's highest individual finisher with a 929 total pinfall over five matches. The Penguins finished in a pack as all five placed between 42nd and 53rd. Rachel Ellis was 45th (923), Emma Dockery was 47th (920), Ashley Kolb was 48th (915) and Rachel Darrow placed 53rd (849). Ellis had the highest individual game of the day at 215, and all five bowlers posted at least one 200.

Youngstown State fell 990-898 to No. 8 Delaware State, and the Penguins then posted an 872 against the bye. YSU lost a close 968-933 contest to Mount St. Mary's, and its lone win followed when it edged No. 10 Tulane 937-915. The Penguins lost 971-896 to St. Francis Brooklyn to conclude the day.
