The Youngstown State bowling team went 1-2 in its three bracket matches on Sunday at the Hawk Classic Invitational as it completed its fall schedule. The tournament was held at Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Del., and hosted by UMES.
The Penguins opened the morning with a 4-2 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn, and they lost their final two matches to Mount St. Mary’s and St. Francis Brooklyn to finish the tournament in 16th place.
YSU eclipsed 210 twice in their six-game victory over the Terriers, and the match against the Mountaineers was decided by a roll-off. The Penguins fell behind 3-1 in the match and tied with a 170 in game six. YSU won gave seven 195-194, but Mount St. Mary’s took the roll-off 106-85. The Penguins then lost 4.5-1.5 in a rematch with St. Francis Brooklyn.
Top-ranked Vanderbilt won the tournament with a 10-1 record and beat Sacred Heart twice on Sunday in bracket play.
