The Youngstown State bowling team will travel to Millsboro, Del., this weekend for its final tournament of the fall semester. The Penguins will compete in the three-day Hawk Classic Invitational hosted by UMES at Millsboro Lanes. The Penguins' 13 matches will be streamed live on the YSUsports YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/ysusports) if the wireless signal inside the center permits.
Recapping Last Week: Youngstown State broke five school records and tied another last weekend at the Warhawk Classic in Milwaukee. The Penguins beat No. 18 Central Missouri and No. 15 Adelphi in head-to-head Baker matches on Friday, and they followed that up with a win over No. 14 Lincoln Memorial to start Saturday. Overall, the Penguins were 6-7 in head-to-head matches and finished 14th in the field of 18.

Tournament Format: The Hawk Classic Invitational will be a three-day tournament with five Baker games on Friday, five traditional team games on Saturday and bracket play on Sunday. Each team's total pinfall from the first two days will be used for seeding Sunday's best-of-seven Baker matches. YSU will bowl each team in the opposite pool as well as one from its own pool in a positional round to begin Saturday's competition. The start times will be 9:55 a.m. on Friday, 9:55 a.m. on Saturday and 8:25 a.m. on Sunday.
Scouting the Field: Youngstown State is one of 18 teams overall and one of four teams in the Southland Bowling League that will compete at the Hawk Classic Invitational. Of the 18 teams in the field, 13 were ranked in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Preseason Top 25 Poll. YSU is in the maroon pool, and it will bowl head-to-head matches against grey pool members No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 9 Fairleigh Dickinson, No. 12 Sacred Heart, No. 19 LIU Brooklyn, No. 20 Duquesne, No. 24 Kutztown, Caldwell, Mount St. Mary's and St. Francis Brooklyn. Ranked teams in YSU's pool include No. 4 Sam Houston State, No. 7 UMES, No. 8 Delaware State, No. 10 Tulane, No. 11 North Carolina A&T, No. 14 Lincoln Memorial, No. 23 Monmouth and Coppin State.
Up Next: Youngstown State will have a two-month break for the holidays. The Penguins will begin their spring schedule on Jan. 18, 2019, at the KU Invitational under new head coach Doug Kuberski.
