The Youngstown State bowling team will begin a stretch of three tournaments in four weeks this Friday at the Hawk Flight Invite. The tournament will be held at King Pin Lanes in Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and it will be hosted by Monmouth. YSU's 13 matches at the event will be streamed live on the YSUsports YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/ysusports) if the wireless in the center permits, and results will be posted on the team's Twitter feed (@YSUBowling).

Tournament Format: The Hawk Flight Invite will follow the standard three-day tournament format of five Baker matches on Friday at 10:55 a.m., followed by five traditional matches on Saturday at 9:25 a.m. The total pinfall from the first two days will determine seeds for Sunday's bracket, and teams will compete in three best-of-seven Baker matches for the final placings.

Scouting The Field: Youngstown State is one of 17 teams competing at the 2019 Hawk Flight Invite, and YSU is one of nine teams in the field ranked in February's National Tenpin Coaches Association Top 25 Poll. No. 2 Vanderbilt is the highest ranked team in the field, and other top-12 teams include No. 5 Sam Houston State, No. 6 UMES, No. 10 North Carolina A&T, No. 11 Saint Francis U and No. 12 Delaware State. No. 17 LIU Brooklyn, No. 22 Monmouth and No. 25 Youngstown State round out the ranked teams in the field. This is the third straight year that YSU will compete in the Hawk Flight Invite. The Penguins placed eighth out of 16 in 2016-17, and they were ninth out of 17 last season.

Recapping Last Tournament: Youngstown State was last in action at the Sunshine State Winter Classic Feb. 8-10 in Orlando, Fla., and the Penguins finished 10th in that 14-team field. The highlight of the weekend was when YSU beat No. 3 Nebraska 1,011-1,000 in Baker play for its first win over a top-three-ranked opponent in program history. Youngstown State also beat No. 15 Lincoln Memorial and No. 22 Monmouth in head-to-head play. Nikki Mendez was the top individual finisher at the tournament with a 21st-place score of 972.

Up Next: The Penguins will compete at the Music City Classic in the Nashville area March 15-17 in what will be their final tournament of the regular season. YSU will conclude the month at the Southland Bowling League Championships in Dallas from March 22-24.
