Youngstown State won three more head-to-head matches and had all five of its bowlers individually place in the top 50 as it competed in five team games at the Track Kat Klash on Saturday.
The Penguins will enter Sunday's bracket play sitting 10th overall after totaling 8,994 pins over the first two days at the tournament held at Emerald Lanes in Houston.
Following wins over three top-20 teams en route to a 3-2 record in Baker play on Friday, YSU was eight pins from going undefeated on Saturday. Youngstown State's only loss on the day was a close 945-938 defeat to No. 6 Stephen F. Austin in the third match of the day. YSU earned wins over Maryville (840-810), No. 25 Texas Southern (956-867) and Alabama State (917-879), and the Penguins posted a 913 against the bye.
Emily Dietz was the top individual finisher for the Penguins as she posted a 967 for an average of 193.4. She bowled at least 190 in each of the last four games, and she topped out at 225 in the bye round. Emma Dockery finished two spots back in 24th with a 963, and she had the Penguins' top single-game score with a 244 in the win over Texas Southern. That was a career-high for Dockery and the fifth-highest total in program history. Additionally, Rachel Darrow was 41st with an 898, Nikki Mendez was 45th with an 871, and Rachel Ellis placed 47th with an 865.
YSU will take on ninth-seeded Louisiana Tech in the first round of bracket play on Sunday at 9:20 a.m. Eastern.
