Penguins Have Record-Setting Day to Start Warhawk Classic

The Youngstown State bowling team earned three head-to-head wins and broke the school record for highest scoring Baker match on Friday at the Warhawk Classic. The tournament is being hosted by UW-Whitewater at AMF West Lanes in Milwaukee.

The Penguins bowled nine 200 games and reached into the 240s twice on the day. YSU posted four of those 200s against No. 15 Adelphi as it set a new school standard with a 1,048 five-game total.

YSU totaled 4,752 pins in their five games, which puts them 10th in the 18-team field.. The Penguins averaged 190.08 pins over the 25 games, which was their second-best average for a tournament in program history.

Youngstown State began the day with a respectable 881 total in a loss to No. 1 Vanderbilt, and the Penguins jumped up to 995 in a 162-pin victory over Elmhurst in the second match of the afternoon. The Penguins tallied nine strikes and posted a 246 in game four against the Bluejays, and the Penguins also had a 212 and a 203. The 246 tied for the third-highest Baker game in school history.

YSU edged No. 18 Central Missouri 877-859 to improve to 2-1 on the day, and its went back to even after a 971-951 loss to No. 19 LIU Brooklyn. The Penguins then had their best Baker match in program history in a 1,048-965 win over No. 15 Adelphi. YSU started with a 245 and followed with a 151, 213, 215 and 224.

The Penguins will bowl in five traditional team games on Saturday starting at 10:25 a.m.
