Bowling Heads to Milwaukee for Warhawk Classic

The Youngstown State bowling team will look to build off of a solid start to the month as it competes this weekend at the Warhawk Classic in Milwaukee. The tournament will be held at AMF West Lanes and hosted by UW-Whitewater. The Penguins' 13 matches will be streamed live on the YSUsports YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/ysusports) if the wireless signal inside the center permits.

Recapping Last Week: Youngstown State is coming off one of its best tournaments in program history last weekend at the Track Kat Klash in Houston. The Penguins beat No. 4 Sam Houston State in Baker play on Friday for its first win ever over a top-five opponent, and it also topped No. 16 UAB and No. 17 Louisiana Tech in Baker matches. YSU was then seven pins from an undefeated Saturday as it beat Maryville, No. 25 Texas Southern and Alabama State while losing 945-938 to No. 6 Stephen F. Austin. Youngstown State was 1-2 in bracket competitions on Sunday to finish the tournament in 11th place.

Tournament Format: The Warhawk Classic will be a three-day tournament with five Baker games on Friday, five traditional team games on Saturday and bracket play on Sunday. Each team's total pinfall from the first two days will be used for seeding Sunday's best-of-seven Baker matches. The start times will be noon Eastern on Friday, 10:25 a.m. Eastern on Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Eastern on Sunday.

Scouting the Field: YSU will be one of 18 teams competing at the Warhawk Classic, and the field will feature 13 teams in the NTCA Top 25 Poll. The Penguins will be in the White Pool, and it will compete in head-to-head matches against No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 5 Arkansas, No. 9 Fairleigh Dickinson, No. 15 Adelphi, No. 18 Central Missouri, No. 19 LIU Brooklyn, Elmhurst, Lewis and Valparaiso between Friday and Saturday. YSU will also bowl one head-to-head positional match to start Saturday against a team in its own pool, which includes No. 2 McKendree, No. 3 Nebraska, No. 4 Sam Houston, No. 6 Stephen F. Austin and No. 21 UW-Whitewater.

Up Next: Youngstown State will finish its run of three consecutive weekends with tournaments next week as it bowls at the Hawk Classic Invitational. That tournament will be hosted by UMES and held Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Del.
