Penguins Finish Seventh at Roseann Schwartz Invitational

Boardman, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's golf team finished seventh out of 10 teams in the fourth annual Roseann Schwartz Invitational at Mill Creek Park. The Penguins finished with a two-round team total of 649 on the par-72 course after shooting 328 on Monday and 321 on Tuesday.

YSU was led by junior Megan Creager who shot a two-round 157 to finish in 16th place overall. Creager shot 79 in the first round on Monday and had the team's best finish on Tuesday with a 78. 

Freshman Haylee McGovern had a strong showing in her first collegiate event, shooting a 158 (78-80) to finish tied for 17th. Her 78 on Monday was YSU's lowest score in the first round of play. 

Senior Courtney Shutt carded a two-round 166 (85-81), freshman Kara Raines shot 170 (88-82) and freshman Tori Utrup finished with a 171 (86-85). 

With sophomores Gabby Minor and Katlyn Shutt sidelined due to injury, the YSU lineup featured three freshman competing in their first collegiate action.

Marshall took home the team victory with a two-round score of 608 (310-298) to finish +32. Akron finished 12 strokes behind in second place with a 620 while Cleveland State, Indiana State, Dayton and Niagara rounded out the top-six. 

Madison Butler of Cleveland State took home medalist honors on the individual side, shooting a two-round 149 (72-77) to finish five over par.

The Penguins will return to action Sept. 23 and 24 at the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational in State College, Pa.
