Hudson, Ohio — Kara Raines of the Youngstown State women's golf team won medalist honors at the JCU One Day Shootout hosted by John Carroll at The Country Club of Hudson on Saturday.
Raines was one of three Penguins playing as individuals at the one-day event. The sophomore carded a 76 to take first place by four strokes over Kelly Linnabary of Baldwin-Wallace. Raines earned medalist honors for the first time in her career and recorded her second-career top-10 finish.
The sophomore also collected her second top-15 finish this season. Raines was competing for the fourth time in 2018-19, and for the first time since YSU's fall season finale at the Dayton Fall Invitational in mid-October.
Sophomore Tori Utrup finished tied for fifth with an 83 while freshman Britney Jonda tied for 19th with a 90. Utrup matched her low round of the season, and registered the second top-five finish of her career. Both Utrup and Jonda were competing for the first time since the team's season opener, the Roseann Schwartz Invitational in early September.
Mount Union posted a team score of 340 to win the event by 16 strokes over runner-up Baldwin-Wallace.
The Youngstown State women's golf team will have its full lineup in action tomorrow at the Indiana State University Invitational at The Country Club of Terre Haute in Terre Haute, Ind.
