Indianapolis, Ind. - Youngstown State junior Katlyn Shutt has been named the Nike Horizon League Co-Women's Golfer of the Week for the period of April 10-16, the league office announced on Wednesday.
This is the second time this season that the Dover, Ohio, native has earned the league's weekly award. She was also named the Women's Golfer of the Week on Feb. 27. It also marks the third time this season that a Penguin has won the honor. Victoria Grans was named the league's Women's Golfer of the Week on March 20.
Shutt tied for medalist honors with an even-par 72 to lead YSU to its fourth victory of the season at the YSU Spring Invitational on Saturday. The round featured five birdies and eight pars, and she made par or better on seven straight holes at one point. It was the second time this season that the junior won medalist honors; she also finished first in the team's season opener, the Roseann Schwartz Invitationl in early September.
The performance also marked Shutt's fifth top-five finish of the campaign, and her seventh in the top 10. With her even-par 72 on Saturday, Shutt extended her single-season school record for rounds of par or better to seven. It was also her ninth career round of par or better, which tied current assistant coach Emily Robertson (Dixon) for the YSU career record.
Shutt helped YSU post a team score of 298 to win the one-day event at Youngstown Country Club by 10 strokes over runner-up Cleveland State. It was the team's 10th single-round mark of below 300 this season; there were only four such rounds in program history prior. The victory marked just the fifth time in program history that the Penguins have won at least four tournaments in a season.
Cleveland State's Kaylee Neumeister also earned Co-Women's Golfer of the Week honors after sharing medalist honors with Shutt at the YSU Spring Invitational on Saturday.
The Penguins will go for their fourth league title at the Horizon League Championships April 21-23 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
