The Youngstown State women's golf team will compete in seven events across five different states between early February and late April during the spring portion of its 2018-19 season. Head Coach Nate Miklos announced the team's complete spring schedule on Monday.
The Penguins will begin the spring slate on Feb. 4-5 with the Motor City Cup at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. The event will be played on the Las Colinas Course at Mission Inn, the same location where the Horizon League Championships will be held in April.
"This is by far the best spring schedule we have been able to put together in my time here," Miklos said. "It will be great to go to Mission Inn for our first event in February and give our players a chance to see the golf course that we will compete on for conference."
After starting the spring in Florida, YSU will travel to Kiawah, S.C., later in the month (Feb. 24-26) for the Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Classic at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. "We will really get a chance to face some great competition at Kiawah Island against a field of over 40 teams," Miklos said. "Overall, we have a great mix of events on the schedule that will give us opportunities to play against high-level competition and prepare for the Horizon League Championships."
The Penguins will continue their spring slate March 11-12 with the Benbow Collegiate Tournament hosted by Butler at Blue Sky Golf Club in Jacksonville, Fla. YSU will then travel directly to Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah, Ga., for a Tri-Match with Butler and Savannah State on March 14.
The team's first event of April will be the Indiana State University Invitational at the Country Club of Terre Haute in Terre Haute, Ind. The Guins will then return home to host the YSU Spring Invitational on April 13 at Youngstown Country Club in Youngstown, Ohio. The Penguins also hosted the fifth annual Roseann Schwartz Invitational at Mill Creek Golf Course back in September to begin the season.
The entire campaign will culminate with the Horizon League Championships April 21-23 at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. The Penguins have finished third or better at the event in five of the past six seasons. YSU has won three league titles, the most recent coming in 2015.
The NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 6-8 with the sites yet to be determined.
