The Youngstown State women's soccer team lost their Horizon League opener to Milwaukee 1-0 on Friday evening from Farmers National Bank Field in the Covelli Sports Complex. Kate McEachern played a solid game in net, registering 10 saves on the game.
The Penguins fall to 1-6-2 overall and 0-1-0 in the Horizon League while the Panthers improve to 7-0-0 and 1-0-0.
Milwaukee got on the board in the in first half when Mackenzie Schill scored in the 34th minute off a through ball from Rachel Phillpotts. Schill beat McEachern in the lower left corner of the net.
YSU had their lone chance of the game in the 80th minute when a Katie Hackos shot was tipped just over the crossbar by Milwaukee goalkeeper Elaina Lamacchia.
The Panthers outshot YSU 19-1 and had more corner opportunities, 9-3.
The Penguins are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 16 as they travel to Bowling Green to take on the Falcons at 1 p.m. from Mickey Cochrane Field.
