Freshman midfielder Lauren Dolak scored her second goal of the season in the 77th minute as the the Youngstown State women's soccer team dropped their final home match of the regular season by a score of 3-1, to Wright State on Wednesday evening from Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins fall to 1-12-3 and 0-5-1 in the Horizon League while the Raiders improve to 6-6-2 and 5-1-1 in the league.
Wright State wasted no time getting getting on the board when Mattie Cutts scored on a pass from Aaiyah Patten in the 11th minute to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Less than a miniute later, Cutts scored her second goal of the game after a Kate McEachern save settled in front of the net to set up a tap in goal for Cutts.
Patten extended the Raiders lead to 3-0 in the 23rd minute when she took the ball the length of the field and beat McEachern in top left corner of the goal.
YSU was on the attack for a majority of the second half as they out shot Wright State, 7-2. Sophomore midfielder Sammy Salatino provided YSU with a scoring chance in the 53rd minute when she headed a ball that forced Wright State goalkeeper Maddie Jewel to make a diving save.
Dolak was finally able to get the Penguins on the board when she took a shot from 25-yards out that beat the keeper in the top left corner of the goal. This is Dolak's second goal in the last two games aftering scoring in last weekend's match against UIC.
Wright State outshot YSU 10-8 and had more corner kick opportunites, 5-1.
Six different Penguins registered shots but Dolak led the way with three shots and two on goal. McEachern finished the game with three saves.
The Penguins are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 21 when the travel to Detroit Mercy to take on the Titans at 1 p.m. from Titan Field.
