Women's Soccer Drops 3-0 Decision to Kentucky

Lextington, Virgina - The Youngstown State women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Kentucky on Sunday afternoon at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.

Kentucky improved to 2-0-2 while the Penguins dropped to 1-3.

The Wildcats jumped put to an early 1-0 lead when Foster Ignoffo kicked a strike with a her left foot into the goal at the 4:43 mark. Kate McEachern saved a potential goal on a shot from Gina Crosetti at the 18:37 mark but Kentucky was able to extended their lead just eight minutes later when Hannah Richardson found the net.

At the half, McEachern finished with four saves while Regan LaVigna recorded the only shot for the Penguins. Kentucky outshoot YSU 11-1 and had more corner kick opportunities, 5-3.

Kentucky pushed their lead to 3-0 in the 53rd minute when Jordyn Rhodes found the back of the net on a pass from Ignoffo. LaVigna provided the lone scoring chance for the Penguins in the 85th minute on a shot that was saved by the Wildcats' keeper.

McEachern finished the game with 10 saves including a number of stellar saves in the second half that kept the Wildcats from extending their lead. Kentucky outshot the Penguins 27-2 and registered more corners, 11-6.

The Penguins return home for their next match as they host Akron on Friday, September 6 at 7 p.m. from Farmers National Bank Field.
