Youngstown, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field in the Covelli Sports Complex.
Marcella Sizer scored her second goal of the season when she buried a penalty kick in the 83rd minute of the match.
St. Bonaventure improves 1-1 while the Penguins drop to 1-1 after winning the season opener.
The Bonnies got the scoring started when Sydney Cerza converted a penalty kick just 16 minutes into the match to take a 1-0 lead. The Penguins best scoring chance of the half came in the 26th minute when a header from Lily Welch sailed just over the cross bar.
During the first half, both teams recorded four shots but the Bonnies held the advantage in corner kicks, 3-1.
St. Bonaventure extended their lead early in the second half when Bella May scored in the upper left 90 on a pass from Sabrina Sousa-Sampson in the 60th minute.
The Bonnies took a three goal lead in the 75th minute when Christine Napoli found the back of the net off a rebound. Sizer's goal in the 83rd minute cut the lead to 3-1 but the Penguins were unable to score the rest of the contest.
For the game, the Bonnies outshot the Penguins 12-8 and held the advantage in corner kicks, 4-2. Sizer led the Penguins with three shots while Regan LaVigna, Welch, Mikayla Mustard and Addie Roman also recorded shots for YSU. Zeeyana Jivraj finished the match with four saves.
The Penguins are back in action on Friday, August 30 when they travel to Marshall to battle the Thundering Herd at Hoops Family Field.
