The Youngstown State swimming and diving team opens its 2015-16 season with a home dual meet against St. Bonaventure on Friday at the Beeghly Center Natatorium. The dual is set to start at 5 p.m.

The Penguins are hosting their YSU Faculty Appreciate meet against the Bonnies. During the dual, the members of the YSU Faculty who are in attendance will be saluted. YSU has excelled in the classroom under Head Coach Matt Anderson and the Penguins are excited to have members of the faculty in attendance.

Ellen Tressel, wife of YSU President Jim Tressel, is serving as an honorary coach during the meet. Tressel will be on the pool-side deck helping the YSU coaches and student-athletes during the competition.

The Penguins return sophomore standouts Madison Aranda and Viktoria Orosz from last year's squad.

Both had outstanding freshman campaigns in 2014-15. Orosz was second in the 200-yard freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle and the 200 backstroke at the 2015 Horizon League Championships. Aranda was second in the 1,000 freestyle, fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle and fifth in the 500 freestyle at last year's league meet.

The Penguins have just three seniors on the roster this year in Jana Janson, Bec Stafford and Stefane van Niekerk. Stafford missed last year because of injuries, but will make a return in 2015-16.

The meet will be the first for a handful of newcomers to the program. Making their YSU debuts are Zsanett Csado, Isabella Davis, Haley FisherNatalie Laurence, Aamanda Robinson, Megan Stelpflug and Taylor Tofil.

This is the first dual meet between the programs since Jan. 27, 2001, and the first at the Beeghly Natatorium since November 1998.

The 16-event meet features 14 swimming and both diving events.
