The Youngstown State swimming and diving team was named a College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American team, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The award recognized a record 638 teams (Division I-III) across the nation that achieved a combined 3.0 grade-point average or higher during the fall 2016 semester.
During the recent fall semester, the Guins posted a team GPA of 3.51. YSU was one of just 34 Division I schools to post a semster GPA of above 3.50. The Penguins had the 70th-best semester GPA last spring at 3.42.
In total, 73 percent of all CSCAA member programs posted GPA's above 3.00 with 91 percent of Division I women's teams meeting the mark. Women's teams averaged a 3.336 GPA with men slightly behind at 3.22. To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a grade point average of 3.00 or higher over the fall semester.
The Penguins are back in action on Friday and Saturday when they take on Akron and Bowling Green in Akron.
