Penguins Head to Horizon League Swimming & Diving Championships

The Youngstown State swimming and diving team will head to Chicago for the 2017 Horizon League Swimming & Diving Championships which start Wednesday. The event is being hosted by UIC at the Flames Natatorium Wednesday through Saturday.

Leading the way for the Penguins are swimmers Viktoria Orosz, Madison Aranda, Zsani Csado and a deep group of divers led by Bec Stafford.

Orosz has the top time in the league in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:49.02 which came back in November. Csado posted the second-fastest time in the 200-yard butterfly during the year at 2:03.19. Aranda has the fourth fastest time in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:58.21 which she swam in November as well.

Last year, Orosz was second in the 200-yard freestyle, third in the 200-yard backstroke and in the 500-yard freestyle. Aranda was fifth in the 200-yard butterfly, sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle and seventh in the 500-yard freestyle a year ago. Csado placed fourth in the 200-yard butterfly in her first HL appearance a year ago.

Stafford was third in the three-meter at last year's league meet and has twice finished as the runner-up in the one-meter competition. Stafford has already qualified for the NCAA Zone C Championships in both the one and three-meter dives. Bethany Glick (three), Lydia Scheringer (one) and McKenzie Stelter (one) has also advanced to the Zone C meet. Scheringer was fifth in the one-meter dive at last year's league competiton.
