Three Penguins Earn Runner-Up Finishes at Magnus Cup Invitational

The YSU swimming and diving program was named a CSCAA Scholar All-American team.

The Youngstown State swimming and diving team competed against a strong field of 14 schools at the Magnus Cup Invitational hosted by Cleveland State at the Busbey Natatorium. 

Viktoria Orosz was second in the 200 freestyle, Madison Aranda placed second in the 500 freestyle while Bec Stafford placed second in both diving events to lead the Guins' individual efforts.

The Penguins' 567 points to placed them in fifth while Akron took first and Duquesne was second.

In the 500-yard freestyle Aranda had a second-place time of 4:58.21 as she was just behind Akron's Mackenzie Vargas who had a time of 4:57.28.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Orosz finished with a time of 1:49.02 while Akron's Madison Myers took first with a 1:48.49. 

On Sunday, Orosz and Aranda both competed in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Orosz was third with a time of 17:10.32 while Aranda was sixth at 17:16.19. In the 200-yard butterfly, Zsani Csado was third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.19 while Aranda was fifth 2:04.98.

In the one-meter diving event, Stafford was second with a score of 279.75 points while Lydia Scheringer was fourth at 256.40 and Megan Siford was fifth at 247.75.

In the three-meter dive, Stafford was second with a 259.45 and Bethany Glick placed third with a 249.95. 

The relays were headlined by a strong performance in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The Penguins clocked a time of 7:32.57 and was just out-touched by Akron who won with a 7:30.20.

In the other relays, YSU had a time of 3:52.49 in the 400-yard medley relay; a time of 1:36.86 in the 200-yard freestyle relay; a time of 1:46.51 in the 200-yard medley relay and a 3:29.48 in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
