Olean, N.Y. – The Youngstown State swimming and diving team opened up the 2016-17 campaign with a 163-137 dual win at St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon.
Madison Aranda and Vikotria Orosz won three events while Kolbrun Jonsdottir won two while diver Bec Stafford claimed first in both the one-and-three-meter dives. Zsani Csado added a first place finish for the Penguins in the 100-yard butterfly.
YSU won 12 of the 16 total events, splitting the two relays and taking first in nine of 12 individual swimming events.
Aranda won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:51.63, she won the 200 fly with a time of 2:10.27 and the 500-yard free with a time of 5:13.62
Orosz won the 200 free with a time of 1:55.64, won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.34, won the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.49
Jonsdottir won the 50 free with a time of 25.10 seconds and the 100 free clocking in at 54.76 seconds. Csado took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.87 seconds.
Stafford won the 1-meter diving with a score of 242.55 points while Lydia Scheringer was third (214.20) and McKenzie Stelter was fourth (211.73). Stafford won the 3-meter dive with a score of 257.40 narrowly beating Stelter who scored 257.17 points to place second. Bethany Glick was third with 218.62 points.
YSU capped off the event with a time 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:39.16.
YSU is at home next Saturday at noon against defending Horizon League champion Oakland at the Beeghly Natatorium.
