Penguins Have Strong Showing At Butler Invitational

Fishers, Ind. - The Youngstown State swimming and diving team placed fifth out of 10 schools at the Butler Invitational held on Sunday at Fishers High School.

The Penguins had 269 points in the meet and finished ahead of Western Illinois, Butler, Indianapolis, Ball State and Valparaiso. Xavier won the event while IUPUI was second, Saint Louis took third and Southern Illinois finished fourth.

In the 1,650 freestyle, Aida Jurinovics finished fourth with a time of 18:09.37 while Josie Preski was fifth clocking a 18:16.39. 

Casey Prentice had a strong fourth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.91 seconds and earned a sixth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle swimming a time 24.86 seconds.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Jamie Leming finished fifth with a time of 59.48 seconds. In the 200-yard backstroke, Avery McCarthy swam a time of 2:11.98 to place sixth. 

The Penguins are next in action Feb. 13-16 at the Horizon League Championships. The event will be hosted by IUPUI in Indianapolis.
