The Youngstown State swimming and diving team had a strong performance against Illinois and Saint Francis on Friday night at the Beeghly Natatorium. The Penguins defeated the Red Flash while Tiphaine Saint-Gilles earned a pair of event victories.
Saint-Gilles won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.50 and took first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.56.
In the 1,650-yard freestyle, the Penguins placed third, fourth and fifth. Placing third was Josie Preski who swam a time of 17:56.02, Taci Miller finished fourth with a time of 18:23.33 and Taylor Bishop was fifth clocking a time of 18:29.04.
YSU also took third through fifth in the 100-yard backstroke. Placing third was Averi McCarthy with a time of 1:01.48, Rachel Shipp was fourth at 1:01.49 and Allyson Wilson finished fifth at 1:01.60. McCarthy also finished third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.95.
In the 200 butterfly the Guins produced second and third-place finishes. Senior Zsani Csado was second with a time of 2:08.98 while Aida Jurinovics was third with a time of 2:10.03. YSU also grabbed second and third place finishes in the 100-yard fly. Jurinovics was second with a time of 58.91 seconds while Rachel Shipp clocked a time of 59.71 seconds.
Jurinovics capped the night off with a second-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.77.
The Penguins will take on Illinois on Saturday morning to conclude a busy two-day stretch. The meet at the Beeghly Natatorium is set for 9 a.m. The Penguins will honor their four seniors prior to the dual with the Fighting Illini.
