The Youngstown State women's tennis team is in action on Saturday and Sunday when the Penguins play host to Detroit Mercy and Oakland. Combined the Titans and Golden Grizzlies enter the weekend 4-0 in HL play.
Saturday's match against the Titans is set for 6 p.m. at the Boardman Tennis Center. Sunday's contest vs. Oakland will be played at the YSU Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
The Penguins (9-8 and 3-1) have won three straight matches after losing to UIC. YSU rebounded with a 7-0 win at home over Valparaiso before picking up road wins at Wright State and Northern Kentucky last weekend.
The win against NKU was a tight 4-3 win. Freshman Imaan Hassim picked up a three-set win in the final completed match to push the Penguins past the Norse.
Oakland is 6-7 overall and 2-0 in league play while the Titans are 6-8 and 2-0. The Golden Grizzlies visit 3-0 Cleveland State on Saturday as the top four teams in the league standings all face each other in the next eight days.
In dual play this spring, Noelly Longi Nsimba is 11-5, Hassim is 10-6, Sofia Macias is 10-4, Dominika Lackova is 9-5, Ana Stroe is 7-7 and Nehel Sahni is 6-3. Five Penguins are 3-1 in league play while Macias is 2-2.
Additionally, the Penguins have won the doubles point in three of their four Horizon League matches.
Against the Titans, YSU has won three straight and four of the past five duals. Against the Golden Grizzlies, the Penguins have won the past five games.
