Irvine, Calif. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up a 7-0 win over UC Irvine on Thursday afternoon at the UC Irvine Tennis Stadium.
The Penguins improve to 6-6 overall with the dual victory and posted two wins on their trip to California. YSU defeated Villanova on Monday.
YSU won all three doubles matches earning 6-2 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 and a 6-1 win at No. 1.
In singles play, the Guins had sweeps at Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 and won in three sets at No. 1 and No. 6.
Head Coach Mickael Sopel said he was impressed with how the Penguins dispatched of the Anteaters.
"This was a very strong match by our team today," Sopel said. "This is a great reference match before going into conference play. The energy and determination was perfect. It shows how good of a team we can be when we all come together."
At No. 2 singles, Noelly Nsimba won 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3, Sofia Macias picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win, at No. 4, Imaan Hassim won 7-6, 6-2 and at No. 5, Nehel Sahni picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory. At No. 1, Dominika Lackova won 6-5, 7-6, 10-4 and at No. 5, Ana Stroe earned a come-from-behind 1-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory.
In doubles play, Nsimba and Stroe won 6-3 at No. 1, at No. 2, Macias and Hassim won 6-2 and at No. 3, Lackova and Sahni picked up a 6-2 victory.
YSU is next in action on Saturday, March 18 when it plays host to Toledo at the Boardman Tennis Center.
