Penguins Pick Up First Horizon League Win Beating Valpo

Boardman - The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up a 7-0 win over Valparaiso on Saturday night to pick up their first Horizon League of the 2016-17 campaign.

YSU (7-6 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League) won the doubles points and all six singles matches against the Crusaders  (1-10 and 0-1).

The Penguins earned the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. 

In singles, YSU won in straight sets at four of the six spots. Winning in straight sets were Dominika Lackova, Noelly Longi Nsimba, Sofia Macias and Ana Stroe. Two Penguins won their matches in three sets - Nehel Sahni at No. 4 and Imaan Hassim at No. 5.

Sahni won her first set 6-1, before dropping the second 6-1. She won the third convincingly, 10-2. Hassim won her first set 7-5 before falling 7-5. She won in the third 10-4.

The Penguins are next in action at Wright State on Saturday, April 1.
