YSU Has Impressive 6-1 Win Over Wright State

Dayton, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 win over Wright State on Saturday night at the South Regency Tennis Center in a Horizon League final rematch.

The Penguins improve to 8-8 overall and 2-1 in the Horizon League while the Raiders fall to 11-9 and 2-1.

YSU won the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Sofia Macias and Imaan Hassim won 7-5 at No. 2 to claim the point after Dominika Lackova and Nehel Sahni picked up a 6-2 victory at No. 2.

The Guins claimed wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 in straight sets. At No. 1, Lackova won 7-6, 7-6 over Karstine Haller. At No. 2, Noelly Nsmiba won 6-4, 6-2 against Linsey Verstrepen. Hassim cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win against Haily Morgan at No. 4. Ana Stroe picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Tori Turner. 

At No. 5, Nehel Sahni had a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-2, 10-3 win over Taylor Culbertson. Macias dropped a three-set 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 decision to Elaine Colern at No. 4.

The Penguins are back in action on Sunday when they visit Northern Kentucky. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
