The Youngstown State women's tennis team takes on Northern Kentucky and Wright State this weekend at the Boardman Tennis Center. The Penguins will honor seniors Ana Stroe, Noelly Longi Nsimba and Sofia Macias.
YSU takes on NKU on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Boardman Tennis Center. Entering the weekend, Sunday's matchup between the Penguins and Raiders is set to showcase the remaining unbeaten Horizon League schools.
The Penguins enter the weekend with a 11-9 overall mark and 5-0 Horizon League record. NKU brings a 6-7 record and 3-2 Horizon League record into Saturday afternoon's match. Wright State enters the weekend as one of the hottest teams in the league having won eight straight matches. The Raiders are 17-9 overall and 5-0 in Horizon League play.
Saturday vs. NKU is Senior Day for three experienced YSU players.
Macias joined the YSU program in February 2015 and has been a mainstay in the lineup her entire career. She has won 65 singles matches and 52 doubles contests. She ranks in the top five in school history in both singles and doubles victories. Macias has 18 singles wins this season and had a career-best 21 last year. In Horizon League matches, she is 21-9 in her career as a Penguin.
Nsimba has been with YSU the past three years and been a standout since arriving on campus. In her three seasons she has 61 singles victories and 44 doubles wins. She was a first-team all-league honoree last year winning a career-best 26 matches and posting a 7-2 record in HL play. In her career, she is 19-4 in Horizon League contests. This season she has 19 wins, including 12 in dual matches.
Stroe has been with the program four full years. In her career, she has won 30 singles matches and has 27 doubles victories.
The Penguins have won each of the two previous contests against the Norse. Sunday's tilt against Wright State is a rematch from the 2017 Horizon League title contest which YSU won 4-2. The Guins have won the last eight contests against the Raiders dating back to April 21, 2012.
