Penguins Drop First Horizon League Contest Falling at UIC

Homewood, Ill. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to UIC on Saturday afternoon at the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club.

Picking up singles wins for the Penguins were Sofia Macias and Anastasiia Khokhlova. The loss drops the Guins to 13-10 overall and 7-1 in the Horizon League while UIC improves to 13-6 and 7-1.

YSU lost a hard-fought doubles point dropping two of the three contests. Noelly Longi Nsimba and Imaan Hassim picked up a 6-2 at No. 2, but the Guins dropped the contest at No. 1. At No. 3, Khokhlova and Ana Stroe dropped a 7-6 (4) decision to drop the point.

Khokhlova picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win over Melika LeBlanc at No. 3 and at No. 4, Hassim retired after dropping her first set. 

Macias gave the Guins another win beating Georgie Sanders 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2.

At No. 5, Tamara Teufl dropped a 6-3, 7-5 decision and the Flames earned come-from-behind wins at No. 1 and at No. 6 to claim the victory.

At No. 6, Cassandra Moraleja won her first set 6-4 before losing the next two 7-5, 6-2. Nsimba won her first set 7-6 against Lejla Colic, but dropped her last two sets 7-6 (8) and 6-1.

YSU closes out the regular season on Sunday at IUPUI. UIC and Cleveland State play each other on Sunday. If YSU beats the Jaguars it will share the title with the winner of the Vikings/Flames match. The Guins will be the No. 1 seed in the Horizon League Championships with a win and a Cleveland State win. A UIC win over CSU and YSU wins makes the Penguins the No. 2 seed.
