Penguins Begin Horizon League Play With Win Over Milwaukee

Boardman, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's tennis team beat Milwaukee 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Avalon Athletic Club in their Horizon League opener.

The Penguins (7-9 and 1-0) won all three doubles matches and five of six singles contests against the Panthers (4-11 and 0-1).

In doubles play, Sofia Macias and Tamara Teufl won 6-1 at No. 1 while Noelly Longi Nsimba and Imaan Hassim picked up a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.

YSU's five singles wins all came in straight sets. At No. 1, Nsimba picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win over Labina Petrovska. At No. 2, Macias beat Loren Nelson by scores of 6-1, 6-2. At No. 3, Anastasiia Khokhlova won 6-2, 6-0 in her Horizon League debut against Anna Daniel Fuentes. At No. 4, Hassim picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Agata Jurczak. While at No. 6, Cassandra Moraleja earned a 6-2, 6-2 win against Lucy Harper.

YSU closes out its opening weekend of Horizon League play with a Sunday morning contest against Green Bay. First serve is set for 8:30 a.m. at the Avalon Athletic Club.
