Penguins Continue Fall Play at Wright State Invitational

Dayton, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's tennis team competed at the Wright State Fall Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

In action at Flight No. 1, Noelly Longi Nsimba dropped her first match before rebounding to win her next two beating Bowling Green's Polina Radeva 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 and Dayton's Marlys Bridgham 6-2, 6-3. Sofia Macias dropped a tough three-set decision in her first round before defeating Bridgham 6-4, 7-6.

At Flight No. 2, Imaan Hassim dropped two matches including a 4‐6, 6‐2, 13‐11 decision in the first round to Dayton's Jade Kawamoto. 

In Flight No. 3 play, Lucia Zagar won her opening match beating IUPUI's Krystal Grubb 5-7, 7-6, 10-8. Zagar lost her final two matches in straight sets. Also at No. 3, Cassandra Moraleja lost a pair of tough three-set matches before closing out play with a win over Wright State's Madison Riley.

YSU was strong in play at Flight No. 4 with Ana Stroe and Tamara Teufl each winning three matches. Teufl beat Akron's Carla Flores by a score of 6-3, 6-2, Northern Kentucky's Hannah Watton by a score of 6-4, 6-4 and Wright State's Anna Marie Reynolds 6-0, 6-0. Stroe defeated NKU's Sydney Power 6-1, 6-1, Dayton's Kelly Pleiman 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 and Wright State's Grace Whitney 6-0, 0-6, 15-13.

At No. 1 doubles, Hassim and Macias went 1-2 as did Nsimba and Teufl. At No. 2 doubles, Zagar and Moraleja also went 1-2.

The Penguins are next in action on Oct. 13 at the ITA Midwest Regionals in Ann Arbor, Mich.
