Harmar, Pa. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 marathon decision to Duquesne on Sunday at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Club of Pittsburgh.
The Penguins (1-2) had played each of the past two days and fell to the Dukes (2-0) in a match that lasted nearly six hours. Five of the six singles matches went three sets and just one was a first-to-10 super tiebreaker.
The Dukes won all three doubles matches to win the point earning a 6-3 win at No. 1, a 6-2 victory at No. 2 and a 6-4 win at No. 3.
Lucia Zagar earned a three-set win for the Penguins defeating Margot Pessy 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 5. At No. 1, Imaan Hassim lost a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 decision to Julianne Herman. At No. 2, Tamara Teufl dropped a 5-7, 6-4, 2-6 battle to Laurel Skymansky. In action at No. 3, Cassandra Moraleja lost 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 to Maddy Adams and at No. 4, Elvira Esteo lost 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 to Aishwarya Kone.
YSU returns to action on Saturday when it visits Ball State. The dual is set for a 4:30 p.m. start.
