Penguins Wrap Up Season With 5-2 Win Over IUPUI

Boardman - The Youngstown State women's tennis team wrapped up the 2018-19 season with a 5-2 win over IUPUI on Saturday night at the Avalon Athletic Club in Boardman.

The Penguins end the year on a two-match winning streak having defeated co-Horizon League regular-season champion UIC on Friday and IUPUI on Saturday night. YSU ends the year with a 6-18 and 3-6 in the Horizon League while IUPUI falls to 6-16 and 2-7.

YSU dropped the doubles point, but was not to be denied in singles play. YSU won the first two completed singles matches as Tamara Teufl cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 2 and Imaan Hassim breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 1. 

The Jaguars earned a singles win at No. 6, but the Penguins would win the final three singles contests.

At No. 3, Lisa Khamassi picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Mariella Pessina to give the Guins a 3-2 lead. The clinching match came at No. 4 as Cassandra Moraleja overcame a tough 7-6 first-set loss to win the next two sets, 6-3, 6-1. 

The final match of the night was won by Lucia Zagar, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.
