Milwaukee, Wis. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon at the River Glen Elite.
YSU (4-13 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League) won the doubles point and picked up an Elvira Esteo victory in singles, but came up short to the Panthers (8-7 and 1-1). Milwaukee won five singles contests, three of which came in three sets. YSU won the first set in four of the singles contests.
At No. 3 doubles, Lisa Khamassi and Cassandra Moraleja beat Agata Jurczak and Nikki Milner, 6-2. After dropping the contest at No. 1 doubles, Imaan Hassim and Claudia Barboza earned a 6-4 victory over Alex Belle and Anna Daniel Fuentes to give the Guins the doubles point.
Milwaukee picked up a win at No. 6 when Esteo gave YSU a 2-1 advantage. She picked up a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Nikki Milner.
However, the Panthers won the final four matches of the contest. At No. 4, Moraleja lost a 6-4, 6-4 contest to Jurczak as the Panthers tied the contest at two. Khamassi won her first set against Mayya Perova at No. 3 before dropping the final two sets, 6-4, 6-3. Milwaukee clinched the win with a win at No. 2 singles. Tamara Teufl won her first set by a score of 6-4 over Nicole Clarke. However, Clarke won the last two sets 6-2, 6-3 to earn the come-from-behind win. At No. 1, Hassim won her first set 6-4 over Alex Belle but dropped the last two sets, 6-4 and 10-8.
The Penguins continue Horizon League play when they take on Cleveland State on Saturday in Streetsboro.
