Teufl, Esteo Win Matches In Season Opener at Pittsburgh

Wexford, Pa. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped their season opener to Pittsburgh 5-2 on Friday night at the Oxford Athletic Club.

YSU picked up singles wins at No. 2 and No. 5. At No. 2, Tamara Teufl earned a 6-4, 7-5 win over Luisa Varon while at No. 5, Elvira Esteo won 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 over Natsumi Okamoto.

The Penguins pushed the Panthers to three sets at No. 1 and No. 4 singles. At No. 1 singles, Imaan Hassim dropped a 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 decision to 76th-ranked Claudia Bartolome. In action at No. 4 singles, Cassandra Moraleja lost a 0-6, 7-6, 6-4 contest to Pitt's Gabriela Rezende. 

YSU falls to 0-1 on the season while the Panthers improve to 1-1.

The Penguins play host to Saint Francis on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Western Reserve Racquet and Fitness Center in Streetsboro, Ohio.
