The Youngstown State women's tennis team opens dual play on Friday with a contest at Pittsburgh. The Penguins are also in action on Saturday against Saint Francis and at Duquesne on Sunday.
YSU's match on Friday against Pittsburgh is set for 7 p.m. at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pa. The Guins' matchup with Saint Francis will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Western Reserve Tennis Center in Streetsboro, Ohio. Sunday's match vs. Duquesne is set for the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center in Harmar, Pa., at 4 p.m.
The Penguins added a pair of players to the roster earlier this month. Joining YSU from ASA College in Miami are Lisa Khamassi and Claudia Barboza. The junior-college duo played for one of the top Division I programs in the country and now bring their talents to YSU.
The Penguins have won at least 12 dual matches in each of the past six seasons and are coming off a 16-10 mark from 2017-18.
- The Penguins have lost 10 consecutive matches to Pittsburgh. YSU's last win over the Panthers was Sept. 22, 2004. The Guins' last win at Pitt was on April 18, 1990. Pittsburgh beat the Penguins 6-1 last year.
- YSU has won 13 straight matches against Saint Francis (Pa.). The Penguins beat the Red Flash 5-2 last year.
- YSU has lost its last four contests to Duquesne and last won at Duquesne on Feb. 8, 2014 (6-1). The Dukes won 5-2 last year.
