YSU Drops Hard-Fought Match Against Toledo

Streetsboro, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Toledo on Friday night at the Western Reserve Racquet Club.

YSU (3-6) came out strong in doubles winning two of three matches to claim the point. At No. 2, Imaan Hassim and Lucia Zagar picked up a 6-2 win over Eileen Carney and Kokoro Chishaki while at No. 3, Claudia Barboza and Elvira Esteo picked up a win at No. 3 beating Claire Aleck and Christina Fuller.

The Rockets (5-1) rallied to win the match by with victories in four of the six singles contests. 

Toledo picked up wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles before a victory by Tamara Teufl at No. 2 tied the contest at two. Teufl beat Eileen Carney 7-5 and 6-2 to tie the contest. A victory by Lisa Khamassi at No. 3 gave the Guins a 3-2 advantage. Khamassi dropped her first set 6-4 to Kokoro Chishaki before winning the next two 6-4 and 6-3.

At No. 1, Hassim lost a tough 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 contest to UT's Deedee Leenabanchong and Rockets picked up the decisive point at No. 6 as Claire Aleck rallied to beat Barboza 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.

The Penguins are next in action on March 10 when they visit Cal State Fullerton.
