Youngstown State freshman Marketa Plesingrova was named the Most Valuable Player of the Eagle Challenge in leading the Penguins to an undefeated weekend.
Plesingrova, an outside hitter from the Czech Republic, was joined on the all-tournament team by YSU senior Sam Brown and junior Sarah Varcolla. The Penguins went 3-0 at the Eagle Challenge, sweeping Winthrop and host Morehead State on Friday and Delaware State on Saturday.
Plesingrova averaged 3.33 kills per set on a very efficient .393 attack percentage in the first three matches of her collegiate career. She started the weekend with seven kills and three aces in the win over Winthrop, and she followed that up with 10 kills versus Morehead State. Plesingrova then capped the weekend with 13 kills on just 20 attempts while adding career highs with four digs and two blocks.
Brown averaged 2.44 kills per set while hitting .298 in the three victories. Playing on the right side, she added five aces and four blocks on the weekend. Varcolla averaged 3.11 kills and 0.78 blocks in the three wins while hitting .247. She matched Brown with five aces.
Youngstown State will look to improve to 4-0 as it hosts Robert Morris on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Beeghly Center.
