The Youngstown State volleyball team lost in straight sets at IUPUI on Friday evening to begin the final weekend of the regular season. The set scores were 25-20, 25-23, 25-13.
IUPUI was led by Hannah Oehlberg, who finished with 10 kills and 11 digs.
The Jaguars held slight advantages in kills (37-33), digs (69-66) and blocks (6-5) despite outscoring the Penguins 25-13 in the third.
IUPUI scored four straight points in the opening set to turn a 6-6 tie into a 10-6 lead, and it extended its lead to 18-12 following a Rebecca Schlechte ace. YSU fought to get back within three at 19-16, and it got as close as two at 22-20 before IUPUI scored the final three points of the set.
There were 10 ties and seven lead changes in the second set before IUPUI pulled out the win. YSU's final lead came at 16-15 after a Brooklen Pe'a kill. IUPUI went on an 8-2 run to go up 23-18 as it went on to go up 2-0 in the match.
The Jaguars outhit the Penguins .361-.047 and got a side out on 12 of 13 opportunities in the third set.
Youngstown State will conclude the 2018 season at Wright State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
