First-year Youngstown State head volleyball coach Aline Scott announced Monday that the Penguins will play many of its scheduled 30 matches in Ohio and Pennsylvania during the 2018 season.
The Penguins will begin the Scott era on Aug. 24 with the first contest of a three-match tournament at Bucknell. Youngstown State will also play a non-conference tournament at Virginia (Sept. 7-8).
The Penguins will start the Horizon League portion of their schedule at defending champion Cleveland State on Sept. 21, and they’ll make a 200-mile trip to play at runner-up Oakland the next day. YSU’s home opener will be on Sept. 28 against Wright State, and the match against the Raiders will be the first of three straight at Beeghly Center. The Penguins will then play three straight road matches to wrap up the first loop of league play at Green Bay on Oct. 13.
YSU will host Cleveland State on Oct. 19 to begin the second half of the conference schedule and a busy home stretch. In addition to the Vikings, YSU will also welcome Oakland, Green Bay, Milwaukee and UIC to Beeghly Center in a 17-day span that concludes on Nov. 4 Youngstown State will conclude the regular-season at Wright State on Nov. 10, and the opening round of the Horizon League Tournament will be on Nov. 16 at the home of the top seed.
