The Youngstown State volleyball team couldn't slow down the hot-hitting UIC Flames in a 3-0 loss at the Flames Athletic Center in Chicago on Friday evening. The set scores were 25-8, 25-18, 25-19.

UIC had 49 kills in 105 attacks and registered a .381 attack percentage in the sweep. Kiera James and Paola Santiago combined for 30 kills with just five errors in 56 attempts.

Aleah Hughes led the Penguins with nine kills, and Brooklen Pe'a added six kills. The Flames held YSU to 27 kills in 102 attempts.

UIC went on an 11-1 run early in the first set to seize control, and it went on a 4-0 spurt after a Hughes kill got the Penguins to within 18-15 in the second. The Flames scored the first seven points of the third set before YSU countered with a 5-0 run and eventually tied the score four different times. YSU was within one at 19-18 on another Hughes kill, but UIC ended the match on a 6-1 run.

Youngstown State will conclude the first half of Horizon League play at Milwaukee and Green Bay next week.
