Orlando, Fla. - Youngstown State senior Michelle Klim finished an impressive second place at the Disney World Cross Country Classic on Saturday morning in Orlando, Fla. Klim helped the YSU women's team to a third-place finish in the Ursula 5K race.
Klim ran a time of 18:28.5 to finish behind Florida International's Sherilene Gebretsadik who won the race with a time of 18:00.8. In the team race, FIU took first with 41 points while Cleveland State was second with 48 and YSU was third scoring 68 points.
YSU placed two freshmen in the top 25 in their Disney World Cross Country Classic debuts. Freshman Natalie Fleming finished 20th with a time of 19:24.0 while freshman Ashleigh Rowley was 23rd with a 19:25.7. Other finishers for the Penguins were Jennifer Muhlenkamp (39th - 19:48.7), Xena Maali (58th - 20:17.2), Raquel Markulin 63rd - 20:22.4), Morgan Ansell (20:52.2), Katie Hackos (21:28.6) and Grace Ayers (23:07.8).
For the men, freshman Tyler Polman again led the way placing 13th with a time of 27:01.6 in the 8K Scar Race. As a team, the Penguins placed third behind Stetson and Florida Atlantic.
Other finishers for the men were Cole Lovett who was 29th running a 27:50.6, Derek Basinger was 34th with a time of 28:04.1, Derek Morrison was 75th with at 29:41.0, Sean Peterson had a time of 30:21.2, C.J. Schumacher ran a time of 30:25.7 and Anthony Linert clocked a 31:40.9.
The Penguins are next in action on Oct. 14 at the Canisius Alumni Open.
