Cross Country Teams Impress at Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational

Notre Dame, Ind. -- The Youngstown State men's and women's cross country teams each turned in impressive performances at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday afternoon at Burke Golf Course.

The men's finished second, which was a program-high at the ND invite, and were led by a pair of top 10 finishes by seniors Alan Burns and Ryan Sullivan. Burns finished seventh and posted a personal-best time of of 24:46.02, which is ranks fourth on the YSU all-time five-mile chart. Sullivan placed eight with a time of 24:47.55. It marks the third straight race that Burns and Sullivan have posted top-10 finishes. 

Tyler Polman's time of 25:22.64 placed him 25th and moved him into the 15th spot the YSU all-time list in the five-mile run. Derek Basinger placed 38th with a time of 25:39.62 and James Nedrich recorded a time of 25:34.38 while Cole Lovett was 54th with a time of 25:57.01. 

Chris Butler posted a time 26:15.47 and Ethan Sparks ran a time of 26:17.71.

On the women's side, the Penguins finished 12th and five runners posted personal-best times. Natalie Fleming turned in a personal-best time of 18:31.74, which ranks 15th in school history in the 5K run. Maggie Sebest posted a time of 18:44.21 while Jennifer Muhlenkamp ran a time of 18:57.23. Mackenzie Scott posted a time of 18:58.22 while Nicole Squatrito ran a 19:09.29. Casey Zaitzew recorded a time of 19:20.03 and Morgan Buckley posted a time of 19:22.65. Raquel Markulen and Ashleigh Rowley turned in times of 20:15.26 and 20:18.52.

In the open division, C.J. Schumacher ran a 26:22.70 and Matthew Mangus posted a 27:02.20. Charlotte Crouch recorded a time of 20:00.26, Xena Maali ran a 20:06.57 and Emma Hunkus turned in a time of 20:50.76
