State College, Pa. -- Five Youngstown State runners recorded top 11 performances in the 6K in program history at the Penn State National Open Meet on Friday. The Penguins finished 12th and defeated James Madison, St. Joseph's (Pa.), Buffalo and Kent State.
Junior Nicole Squatrito led the charge for a 50th-place finish with a time of 21:57.2, which now ranks sixth all-time, while freshman Morgan Cole ran a 21:59.3, which ranks seventh all-time. Squatrito and Cole also became just the sixth and seventh runners, respectively, in school history to record a sub-22 time in the 6K.
Sophomore Mackenzie Scott posted an impressive time 23.16.1 while junior Xena Maali ran a a time of 23:23.3. Sophomore Casey Zaitzew turned in a time of 23:40.9 while freshmen Hailey Zalinsky andn Ashley Ventamiglia recorded times of 23:43.2 and 23:53.7, respectively.
YSU competes at the Canisius Alumni Open on Saturday, Oct. 19.
