Youngstown, Ohio -- Junior Sophie Howell turned in another impressive pitching performance and the Penguins used a four-run sixth inning for a 6-2 Senior Day victory over Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon at the YSU Softball Field in the Covelli Sports Complex.
With the win, the Penguins improve to 22-24 overall and 10-9 in the Horizon League while the Vikings fall to 15-29 overall and 11-9 in league play.
Howell, who picked up her 12th win of the season, struck out seven and did not allow an earned run in a complete-game three hitter. 
Taylory Truran went 1-for-3 and had the go-ahead hit with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the sixth inning. Senior Megan Turner had a two-run double while junior Sara Fessler and senior Avrey Schumacher each belted solo home runs.
The Penguins broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth with a four-run frame. Schumacher kept the inning alive with a two-out walk and Truran drove a 2-1 pitch to left-center field for a double that plated Schumacher from first base.
After a walk to Elyssa Imler, a wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third and Turner laced a two-run double to left-center field to give the Penguins a 5-2 advantage. 
Another wild pitch advanced Turner to third, and a third wild pitch plated senior Zoey Dunlap with the Penguins' sixth run.
Youngstown State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Fessler hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first and Schumacher followed with a solo shot in the bottom of the second.
Cleveland State knotted the game, 2-2, with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the third inning.
Youngstown State closes out the regular season with a three-game series against Northern Kentucky, May 5-6. First pitch on Friday is slated for 4 p.m. in Highland Heights, Ky.
