Indianapolis, Ind. -- The Horizon League today announced its 2016-17 men's basketball schedule. Each league member will play an 18-game slate beginning in late December and concluding in late February. The Little Cesar's Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship will take place March 3-7 in Detroit, Mich., at Joe Louis Arena.
"This year's Horizon League schedule has great balance," YSU Head Coach Jerry Slocum said. "But competing in this highly-competitive league is always a challening task."
For the first time since 2008-09, Youngstown State will open league play at home and will have four of its first six Horizon League contests at the Beeghly Center. The Penguins open league play against Milwaukee on Thursday, Dec. 29, and Green Bay on Saturday, Dec. 31.
After two road games at Northern Kentucky and Wright State on Jan. 5 and Jan. 7, respectively, YSU hosts Valparaiso on Thursday, Jan. 12, and UIC on Saturday, Jan. 14.
The Penguins embark on their longest road stretch during the second half of the season when they play three straight road games at Detroit on Jan. 16, at Green Bay on Jan. 20 and at Milwaukee on Jan. 22.
Up next is a three-game homestand against Cleveland State on Saturday, Jan. 28, Oakland, Thursday, Feb. 2, and Detroit on Saturday, Feb. 4.
The Penguins return trips to UIC and Valparaiso on Feb. 9 and Feb. 11, respectively, before closing out the home portion of the slate against Wright State on Feb. 16 and Northern Kentucky on Feb. 18.
YSU will visit Oakland on Feb. 21 and Cleveland State on Feb. 25 in the regular season finale.
