The Youngstown State men's basketball team will appear on the Big Ten Network and twice on Fox Sports Network this season, Head Coach Jerrod Calhoun announced.
"We are extremely excited that we have the opportunity to build our brand of basketball on television," Calhoun said. "Playing three quality opponents like DePaul, Butler and Indiana on national and regional television really showcases our program in a positive manner."
The Penguins-DePaul game on Dec. 2 will be on FSN at 2 p.m. while the Penguins-Butler matchup on Dec. 9 will also be on FSN at 12 p.m. The Penguins and Blue Demons have met just twice previous. DePaul owns a 2-0 record over the Penguins, including a 107-69 win in the last meeting in 2001.
Youngstown State and former Horizon League member Butler are familiar foes squaring off 24 times. The Bulldogs own a 21-3 advantage in the all-time series and the teams have not played since 2012. YSU last victory over Butler was a 62-60 win at the Beeghly Center in 2011. YSU was the last team to defeat Butler before the Bulldogs advanced to the National Championship Game.
The first meeting between YSU and Indiana on Dec. 29 is set for 8 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
Along with all 18 Horizon League games on ESPN3, Penguins' games will be on a major sports network at least 21 times this season.
Every Penguins game can also be heard on 570 WKBN-AM with YSU Assistant Athletic Director Robb Schmidt calling the play-by-play.
The Penguins open the season against Kent State on Nov. 11 in the Northeast Ohio Coaches vs. Cancer Doubleheader hosted by Akron.
