Freshman Youngstown State women's basketball players Mary Dunn and Mailee Jones have been recognized for their contributions to the team last week. Dunn has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, and Jones was selected to be on the Bank of Hawaii Classic all-tournament team.
Dunn averaged 12.3 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 51.7 percent from the field in the first three starts of her career last week. She began the week with eight points and seven rebounds against Pitt, and she followed that up with an efficient 14 points in 17 minutes at Hawaii on Friday. She concluded the week by scoring a career-high 15 points to go along with four blocks and six rebounds in the win over Sacramento State.
Jones was YSU's representative on the all-tournament team after a breakout weekend in Hawaii. She came off the bench against the Rainbow Wahine to score 12 points and distribute three assists in 18 minutes. That earned her a spot in the starting lineup for Sunday's contest against the Hornets, and she responded with 18 points, five rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes. Jones was 9-for-18 from the field, including 3-for-3 from 3-point range, and 9-for-10 from the free-throw line in The Aloha State.
Youngstown State will play host to Tiffin on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
